A news organization hosting a community baby shower?
An online news startup in Mansfield, The Richland Source, has created a fun event as a way to tackle Ohio’s sad infant mortality rate. The Plain Dealer’s Brie Zeltner has been aggressive on the infant mortality topic and recently showed that Ohio lags behind other states in making improvement.
The Richland Source is receiving support from the Solutions Journalism Network for an educational event on healthy babies. SoJo encourages media to find proven best practices and present them to the community, and cover the citizens as they put those practices into their lives.
The shower will be held Sept. 9. The Source has created a video for the event.
According to a piece in Columbia Journalism Review, the managers of the startup are picking their spots, carefully ramping up content production and planning expansion to Crawford and Ashland counties. Some of their practices might raise eyebrows, but they’re growing, and possibly saving lives at the same time.
